Tatiana Talanova (Vaniashova) "The Tale of Pyotr and Fevronia", 9-sided
casket, 2002, 10x10x20, 9, 1600 US
This unusually shaped chest was inspired by the artistic heritage of the one of the most prominent Palekh painters Valentin Khodov (1942-1988). The theme could be found in the collection of the Palekh State Museum of Art, "The Legend of Pyotr and Fevronia", 1984, rectangular casket, 12.5x20x14cm, N478. "Pyotr and Fevronia" is not very well known and nearly untouched by the painters brush, sixteenth-century tale. It extols to the skies the love between Fevronia, country woman and healer, and Pyotr, a Prince from Muromsk. She cured him from a serious disease. Painter poetically creates an image of all-conquering love.
Bought by a collector from Hong Kong.
