Nikolai Lopatin (born.1947) "Tale about Dead Princess &
Seven Bogatyrs", 5-sided Persian casket, 1996, 15x14.5x11.5,
9.5art
This piece was exhibited in Moscow exhibition devoted to 75th anniversary of
Palekh Lacquer Miniature Art in 1999 and then published in a well known
L.Pirogova "Palekh Lacquer Miniature" book by Interbook-Business, 2001 -
catalogue # 94, page 86.
N.Lopatin is ranked by all experts in Russian Miniature Art as a
classic-painter of modern Palekh first of all due to his strong traditional
technique skills and completeness of his images. In that piece he played with
colors, as he used a lot of yellow, light blue and gray colors from a cold
palette, instead of warm-red spectrum (which he likes) , to stress the aspects
of the fairy-tale. The work is highly detailed and for sure could be an example
of real Palekh small miracle.
Requested and bought by an American collector.
